Before we were a landmark on Talbot Street, we were a dream operating out of a family garage. Founded by Jan Versteeg as Elgin Floor and Wall Tile, our roots were humble but our vision was clear. As the business grew, so did the family involvement, with brothers George and Tom joining Jan to establish Elgin Floor Covering Ltd.

In 1976, we took a leap of faith and transformed a former car wash at 1026 Talbot Street into our permanent home. We’ve been here ever since.

In 1991, we reached a major milestone as a Canadian charter member of Carpet One. This partnership changed the game for our customers—giving us the massive buying power of a national network while allowing us to remain exactly who we’ve always been: your local, family-owned flooring experts.
